Bone grafting
The loss of tooth can often lead to bone loss. For the implant procedure to be successful, it is necessary that the jaw is sufficiently high, wide or both for the implant to be stable. If the recession of the bone occurs, it is necessary to replace missing bone (augmentation) in order to place the implant. Bone grafting or bone augmentation is a procedure that replaces missing bone with the bone harvested from the clients’s own body or it can use artificial bone.
After transplantation, a few months are needed for the bone to fuse with existing tissue, and to complete osseointegration. After the examination, the dentist will decide with the client which method of transplantation is the best having in mind the amount of missing bone and the location where the implant should be placed. The process of healing takes 4-9 months.
